Five & Dime

Woolworth’s was one of America’s first ‘discount variety stores’ that, in its early days, offered nearly everything for either a nickel or a dime. Woolworth’s lived in Garden City Center throughout the 60’s and 70’s, offering everything from apparel, to pets (yes, real animals). Though the once-popular store dominated the South end of Garden City Center, competition in the department store industry soon led to Woolworth’s demise in the 1980’s.
